Plants don’t have mouths like we do, so they don’t eat sandwiches or cereal. But they still need food to grow big and strong. So… what do plants eat?
☀️ Plants Eat Sunshine!
Well, not exactly sunshine — but they use sunlight to make their own food. This super cool trick is called photosynthesis (say it like: foh-toh-SIN-thuh-sis).
Here’s how it works:
✅ Plants take in sunlight with their green leaves
✅ They also take in carbon dioxide from the air
✅ And they suck up water from the ground with their roots
With these three things — sunlight, water, and air — plants mix everything together (like a magic recipe!) and make sugar to grow. The sugar is their food!
🌬️ Why Leaves Are So Important
The green part of the plant, called chlorophyll, helps catch sunlight. That’s why most leaves are green — they’re like little solar panels!
The plant uses this food to:
🌿 Grow taller
🌼 Make flowers
🍎 Grow fruits and vegetables
And guess what? While doing this, plants also release oxygen — the fresh air we breathe!
In short:
Plants “eat” sunlight, water, and air to make their own food — and they give us oxygen as a thank-you gift! 💚🌍
